Peterson, Shirley M. (Marriage - Before 1953)

In a ceremony performed Saturday afternoon at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Neillsville, Miss Shirley M. Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Peterson, Neillsville, became the bride of Duane L. Coyier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee O. Coyier, Madison. The Rev. N. J. Dechant officiated.

Miss Cyrena Van Gordon, the maid of honor, was gowned in orchid marquisette over taffeta with a colonial off-the-shoulder neckline, fitted bodice and shirred skirt edged with a ruffle. She carried a bouquet of orchid and pink sweet peas and wore a bandeau of rosebuds and sweet peas. The bridesmaid, Miss Donna Coyier, Madison, sister of the groom, was identically gowned.

The junior bridesmaid, Miss Donna Rae Peterson, sister of the bride, wore a gown of white net over taffeta. Her tiered skirt was trimmed with orchid buds.

The best man was Robert Coyier, Madison, a brother of the groom. Ushers were Dwight Nolen, Ridgeway; and Charles Neff Jr., Neillsville, Wis.

The bride’s gown and veil were designed and made by her mother. The materials chosen were imported French illusion over satin, the skirt being styled in bouffant tiers with lace inserts. Seed pearls and lace outlined the scalloped neckline. Her long veil was draped from a headdress of made of fresh white rosebuds. She carried a crescent-shaped bouquet of white rosebuds and larkspur surrounding an orchid.

Open house was held at the home of the bride’s parents from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., with a buffet supper being served the bridal party and immediate relatives at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Coyier has attended the University of Wisconsin for two years and the University of Michigan for one year. The groom, who was in the Navy for two years, has attended the University of Wisconsin for a year.

Mr. and Mrs. Coyier, who will live at Madison, will spend a two-weeks’ honeymoon in northern Minnesota and Canada.
