Johnson, James Armand (April 7, 1923 - August 15, 2007)

James A. Johnson, age 84, of Loyal, died on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, in the Palliative Care Unit, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

James Armand Johnson was born on April 7, 1923, at home, in rural Webster, SD, to Jacob A. and Anna S. (McCarolson) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in rural Webster. Jim entered the U. S. Army and served overseas until his honorable discharge. He returned to Webster, where he farmed, drove dump truck and worked as a mechanic.

Jim was united in marriage to Verna Helwig on September 23, 1966 in Webster, SD. They moved to Neillsville, where they lived for a couple years before purchasing a home southeast of Loyal. Jim was a mechanic at Mid-State Truck Service, in Marshfield, for many years, and retired from V & H Heavy Trucks, in Marshfield, where he worked as a mechanic for over 25 years. After retirement, Jim worked on the Hubing farm, southeast of Loyal, for many years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the Loyal American Legion Post #175, and had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family, fishing, gardening and just being outdoors.

Jim will be sadly missed by his wife, Verna, of Loyal; one son, Jake (Roxy) Johnson, of Wausau; one step-son, Jozef Wroblewski, of Santa Cruz, CA; one step-daughter, Dyann Sceel, of Loyal; two grandchildren, Nicole and Samantha Johnson; two step-grandchildren, Isaiah Make and Sadie Ronia; and four sisters, Sylvia (Earl) Luchterhand, of Neillsville; Carole Davidson, of Webster, SD; Marilyn (Al) Hemmingson, of Bradley SD; and Lillian (Eddie) Pies, of Webster, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-sons, Leonard and Stanley Hojnacke; and twin brothers, Sherman and Julian Johnson.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, August 18, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Cremainal interment will take place at Tabor Lutheran Cemetery, in Webster, SD, at a later date.

Cuddie Funeral Home, of Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
