Kotchy, John (30 Jan. 1854 - 20 Sept. 1942)

John Kotchy, 88 years old resident of the town of York, passed away at his farm home at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, September 20, Mr. Kotchy had been ill with a heart ailment for about two years. During the long illness, he was tenderly cared for in his own home by his wife and by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kotchy, who conducted the farm.

Funeral services were held from the family home at 9 a.m. and from St. Mary’s church at 9:30 Wednesday, the Rev. J. A. Biegler officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Kotchy was born in Germany on the 30th day of January, 1854. He grew to manhood in his native country, serving in the army there from his eighteenth to his twenty-first year, a compulsory act even in that early day. He then came to America, settling in Chicago, where he worked for many years as a butler for a large business concern.

In June of 1889, he was married to Miss Anna Platz their marriage taking place in Chicago. In 1893 they came to Neillsville and purchased the land which remained his home for the balance of his lifetime.

He was a member and no doubt one of the last if not the last, of the old Krueger Verein, an organization which was active in Neillsville for many years.

He is survived by his wife and the son, Arthur, and by a daughter, Miss Mata Kotchy, Chicago, a son, Edward, veteran of World War No. 1, died in 1923, as a result of gassing. He leaves also two grandchildren, Loretta and Allan Kotchy.
