Smith, Eileen (20 June 1918 - 2 Jan. 2004)

Eileen Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully at Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, Wis., on January 2, 2004. Eileen was born on June 20, 1918, in Carter, Wis., the daughter of Lester and Rachel (Fagan) Rabbitt. Her parents died at an early age, at which time, through the help of the church, her family was taken into a foster home by David and Nellie Mc Dowell of Montello, Wis.

Eileen was united in marriage to Gordon Smith on April 2, 1938. They lived and farmed in Westfield, Wis., until 1951, and then moved to Edgar, Wis. In 1968, they moved to Thorp, where she resided until December 16, 2003.

Eileen is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gordon; four daughters, Becky (Norm) Meyer of Boyd, Sharon (Ken) Hamann of Wausau, Sally (Mark) Koltis of Thorp and Tami (Bob) Rogus also of Thorp; the love of her life, seven grandchildren; two step grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. She was greatly looking forward to her granddaughter’s birth of twin boys in February. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Lois) Rabbitt of Milledgeville, Ill., two brothers-in-law, Ernest Urban of Cross Plains, Wis., and Harold Williamson of Montello; sister-in-law, Ardith Mc Dowell of Montello; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Kathleen and Peggy; her sister, Evelyn Clora; brother, Ted; foster parents; foster brother, Don Mc Dowell; and foster sister, Vera Miller.

Eileen was the best cook and baker and always had fresh goodies for anyone that would stop by. Eileen’s number one love of her life was her family. Even though the Lord has called her home, the love and laughter she brought will always remain true to our hearts.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Westfield Cemetery.

Plombon Funeral Service in Stanley is assisting the family with arrangements.
