Daniels, John N. (4 MAR 1867 - 8 JAN 1940)

John N. Daniels, a former resident of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at his home at 1015 N. 12th St., Superior, Wis., at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8th, 1940, having reached the age of seventy-two years, ten months and four days.

The deceased lived in Thorp for over thirty-five years and moved to Superior about two years ago with his wife and son, Clayton. He suffered a heart attack a year ago and this affliction eventually caused his death.

Mr. Daniels was born in Fond du Lac, Wis., on March 4, 1867. On Feb. 7, 1889 he was united in marriage to Louis La Vaque, of Rudolph, Wis. They came to Thorp in the early days when the logging and mill industry was at its heights, and Mr. Daniels became employed as sawyer in the then flourishing Cirkel Barrel Stave Factory. He later purchased the City Dray Line of John McGrogan and operated that business until 1919. Always active in civic affaires, he served several terms as village trustee and president, also being village marshal until his retirement. He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge of America.

Mr. Daniels was a good friend and neighbor, a devoted husband, a kind and indulgent father, and it was in his home that his true worth was most conspicuous. When conscious that he was nearing the last on earth, the Christian faith sustained him and the final gloom of death was dispelled by the radiance of God’s love.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Leo Day (Inez), of Superior and two sons, Clayton of Superior and Howard of Glenwood City; also one sister, Mrs. Alice Harcum, Willmar, Minn., and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted today (Thursday) at 9:00 a.m. from the Cathedral of Christ the King at Superior, Rev. Anthony Zukaitis officiating and burial taking place in the Calvary Cemetery.
