Warner, Jessie Mae (25 Sept. 1873 - 13 Nov. 1942)

Jessie Mae Newell, third child of Emery and Adella Newell, was born in Collins Center, New York, September 25, 1873. She passed away very suddenly on Friday, Nov. 13th, at the apartment home of Mrs. John Howard.

When she was about eleven years old the family moved to Dundee, Ill. She attended school here, graduating from high school and later from Wheaton College, Ill. She taught school until her marriage to Edwin L. Warner. They lived for several years in Dundee and Elgin, Ill., and Kenosha County. In 1910, they traded their home in Elgin for the La Flesh farm near the Clark County Fair Grounds, moving there in 1912. Later they owned the Plainfield Hotel at Plainfield, Wis.

They then moved to Shawano, which remained their home until the death of Mr. Warner in 1921. Coming again to Neillsville, Mrs. Warner was employed as a bookkeeper at the Bruley Elevator and with the Bartell Insurance Agency. Later she moved to Elgin where she lived until about eight years ago when she returned to Neillsville, this city having been her home ever since.

Survivors are her brother, Dan Warner, of Elgin, two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Wahl, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Zayda, Mrs. Otto Warren of York.

Her parents and a sister, Mrs. Myra Rover, passed away many years ago. Also left to mourn the death of a devoted aunt are: Mrs. Ruth Warren Beach, Stillwater, Minn., Neil Warren, who resides in the state of Washington; Mrs. Ray Tucker, Elgin; Edouard Harris, West Allis; Vernon Harris, Milwaukee; Kenneth Girard, Chicago and Harry M. Warner, Mishawaka, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Pease, Elgin, and a brother-in-law, Otto Warren, whom the departed loved as her own sister and brother. To Mrs. Warren, she had always been both a sister and mother, having been her kindergarten teacher at Dundee, Ill.

Childless herself, Mrs. Warner was very fond of children, having with her much of the time in past years, her nieces and nephews and also the children of friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Warner was a woman of high ideals and rare intelligence. Graduating from Wheaton College at the age of 18, she continued to study throughout her entire lifetime. Good literature, written in both the English and French languages, brought her much pleasure, as did also the associations of relatives and friends, her home and the beauty of nature.

Since her return to Neillsville about eight years ago, she had cared for many sick and aged people, her keen sense of humor, combined with a sympathetic nature, making her a most desirable nurse.

A few weeks ago Mrs. Warner had closed her home for the winter and came to the home of Mrs. John Howard where she could be closer to her friends, have more time for reading and enjoying the freedom which she had so richly earned. She appeared to be very happy over the change. On Tuesday she spent the entire day at the Otto Warner home where she enjoyed a grand nephew, the baby son of Mrs. Ruth (Warren) Beach of Stillwater, Minn., who with her husband and son spent the early part of last week at the parental home.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Lowe Funeral Home, Rev. O. Asp performing the rites, interment being made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Here for the funeral from distant places were; Mrs. Rex Beach, Stillwater, Minn.; Edouard Harris, wife, and two children, West Allis; Mrs. Jess Bovee, St. Paul and Mrs. Anna Wenman, Prentice.
