Schmitt, Rita (Marriage - 22 July 1940)

A pretty wedding took place at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby Monday morning at 9:00 o’clock when Miss Rita Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alphons J. Schmitt, became the bride of Laurence Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Peterson of Abbotsford, Wis. Rev. L. J. Lang performed the ceremony before an altar adorned with lighted candles and vases of garden flowers.

The bride was attired in white mousseline-de-soie, a long veil with train and a tiara made of seed pearls. She wore elbow-length sheer gloves and carried a bouquet of mixed roses.

The bride was attended by her three sisters, Miss Naomi Schmitt as maid of honor and the Misses Maude and Carmen Schmitt as the bridesmaids. Their gowns were fashioned alike and were of aqua, pink and yellow organdy marquisette with tiaras and face veils to match. Their flowers were similar to those of the bride.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents and dinner and supper was served to about sixty guests. In the evening, a wedding dance was held at the Trianon Gardens. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson will reside on a farm east of Abbotsford, Wis.

Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stabb and daughter, Arline, Vernon Peterson, Miss Ruth Peterson and Vincent Schmitt of Pepin, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stiener, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kaiser and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kirsch of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Haebig of Marshfield and Mrs. Anna Schmitt of Athens.
