Schmitt, Robert (16 Feb. 1879 - 18 Feb. 1941)

Robert Schmitt was found dead in bed early Tuesday morning having died of a heart ailment some time during the night. Funeral services will be held at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, where the body is lying in state, on Friday morning, Feb. 21, at 9:30 o’clock. Rev. L. J. Lang will officiate at the services and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

The deceased was born Feb. 16th, 1879, in Leroy, thus reaching the age of 62 years. He came to this community in October, 1888, with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schmitt, who engaged in farming. On Nov. 25th, 1912, Mr. Schmitt was married to Lena Ohlinger and conducted a cheese factory at Riverside in the town of Hull for a number of years and then engaged in farming. Mrs. Schmitt died in June, 1923. His second marriage took place in 1924 when he married Louise Harho who survives with three daughters and three sons.

The surviving children are Miss Agnes Schmitt of the town of Hull, Miss Genevieve Schmitt of Winnebago, Miss Henrietta Schmitt of Chicago, Raymond of Soperton and Hilarian and Isadore of Glidden. Three sisters and three brothers also survive - Miss Susan Schmitt of Colby, Mrs. Edward Haebig of Marshfield, Mrs. Peter Kaiser of Stratford, Peter Schmitt of St. Paul, John of Milton, Oregon, and Alphons of the town of Hull, Wood Co., Wis.

The deceased was of a kindly and congenial disposition, honest in all his dealings and well-liked by all who knew him.

Funeral services for Robert Schmitt were held at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby last Friday, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Leo Apfelbeck, Ben Apfelbeck, Carl Apfelbeck, Joe Kunze, Lawrence Peterson and Ed. Hoffman.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schmitt of Soperton, Wis., Helarion Schmitt and Isadore Schmitt of Glidden, and Henrietta Schmitt of Winnetka, Ill., Genevieve Schmitt of Winnebago, Peter Kaiser, Matt Kaiser, Frank Kaiser and George Kaiser, all of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Haebig and son, Robert, of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weins, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shedick, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Shedick and sons, John and Sylvester of Athens, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. M. Lamont of Abbotsford, Wis.

The maiden name of Mrs. Schmitt is Louisa Hochael.
