Wanek, Ruth Ann (Marriage - Sept. 1941)

Palms and cibotium ferns decked the sanctuary and lighted tapers and gladioli decorated the altar of the St. Stanislaus church at Winona, Minn., at nine A.M. for the nuptial mass of the marriage of Miss Ruth Ann Wanek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Pieterek of Winona, Minn., and Raymond Henry Thorn of Jackson, Mich., son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Thorn, formerly of Colby now residing at Winona, Minn. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Joseph F. Cieminski.

The bride entered the church on the arm of her father who gave her in marriage. She wore an embossed slipper satin gown, fashioned along simple lines, with a fitted bodice, sweetheart neckline and leg-o-mutton sleeves. A row of buttons extended down the back of the bodice to the waistline. The full skirt was made with a long court train. Her tulle finger-tip length veil, edged in Chantilly lace, and her scalloped face veil were held in place with a coronet of seed pearls. She carried an arm bouquet of white orchids and white Irene ribbon. Her only jewelry was a family heirloom, a gold necklace made of square links with a flower pendant.

Mrs. Herman Thorn, sister in law of the bridegroom, as matron of honor, wore a gown of white taffeta designed with a sweetheart neck line and tiny puffed sleeves. The front of the full skirt fell in deep folds from the panel front of the waist. The panel was bordered on either side with gathers.

The bridesmaids, the Misses Harriet Smocke, a former classmate, Rita Thorn, sister of the bridegroom, and Iona Wanek, cousin of the bride, were gowned alike in linen blue brocaded satin, made in a style similar to that of the matron of honor’s gown. All the attendants wore headdresses of rose pink asters with pink satin streamers extending to the shoulders. They wore necklaces of silver flowers with blue sets, and matching bracelets, gifts of the bride. Their flowers were arm bouquets of pink asters, tied with pink ribbon. Arthur Thorn was best man for his brother and ushers were Gordon Pratt, cousin of the bride, and Herman Thorn, brother of the bridegroom.

Sandra Friedrick, a niece of the bridegroom, was flower girl.

A wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride’s parents and a reception for 100 guests was held in the evening.

Among the out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Brill and Peter Apfelbeck of Colby, Wis.

The newlyweds will make their home in Jackson, Mich.
