Korth, William Ludwig (25 Jan. 1865 - 24 Jan. 1943)

William Ludwig Korth passed away at his home in this city at 2:30 a.m. Jan. 24th, the day prior to his 78th birthday. He had been ill for about a week.

Mr. Korth was born in Germany Jan. 25, 1865, to Carl and Fredericka Korth, coming to his country with his parents in 1873, at the age of eight. The family settled at Lake Mills were the departed attended school and learned the carpenter’s trade. He was married there to Augusta Marie Jahn, Sept. 12th, 1886. They were the parents of five children, namely: Charles Korth, Neillsville; Emil Korth, town of York; Leo Korth, on the home farm in the Town of Grant; Ludwig B. Korth, Marshfield, and Alice, Mrs. Frank Knoop, Pine Valley.

About 46 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Korth and their family came to Clark County, purchasing the Oscar Eisentraut farm in the town of Grant where they strove long and faithfully to rear their family and to lay aside something for their declining years. About 21 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Korth turned their farm over to one of their sons, purchasing a home in Neillsville, Wis. Mr. Korth never retired. In fact, he was a very busy man up to the time of his last illness. When not engaged at his trade, he busied himself at such other work as he could fine to do. He often admitted that he could no longer work fast, but he preferred to work reasonably to the best of his ability rather than give up because of his age and declining strength.

He is survived by his wife and children, seventeen grandchildren and a great grandchild, and by a brother, August Korth, of Lake Mills. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Jaster Funeral home at 1:30 p.m. and at Zion Evangelical and Reformed church, of which he was a member, at 2:00, the Rev. N. J. Dechant officiating. Interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Gus. Steffen, Gus. Holtz, Herman Dahnert, Marvin Jahr, Fred Stelloh, and Gus. Deutsch.

Out of town relatives who were here for the rites were august Korth and a nephew, Reinhart Korth, Lake Mills; and a granddaughter of the departed, Mrs. Victor Capaul of Alma Center.
