Kaucnik, Josef #2 (9 MAR 1876 - 10 DEC 1940)

This community was saddened by the passing of Josef Kaucnik at the hospital in Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, 1940, at 8:00 o’clock.

Mr. Kaucnik had been in poor health for two years, and during this time had hospital care frequently. When he was taken to the hospital Nov. 10, his condition was more serious. After a week at the hospital his condition seemed to respond to treatment, and hopes for his recovery were entertained. However on Friday, Dec. 6, his condition was definitely more serious and he grew weaker; passing away the following Tuesday night, having attained the age of 64 years, 8 months and 21 days, the immediate cause of his death being respiratory paralysis.

Mr. Kaucnik was born at Laiboh, Austria, March 9, 1876, where he grew to manhood and was married on in October 1901, to Mary Verant. Soon after he came to this country where he worked in a factory in Waukegan, Ill. for a number of years, coming to Willard, there being engaged in farming for a short time, when he returned to the city to work until 1914. Then he returned to this community and bought the present farm site five miles south of Owen, Wis. He soon became a naturalized citizen, developed a fine farm and resided there until the time of his death.

Besides his wife he is survived by five children, Joe Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Marie Kuznik of Waukegan, Ill., Vencle of Greensburg, Ohio, Mrs. Anne Suda of Greenwood, and Mrs. Molly Hahto of Gurnee, Ill., and 19 grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday morning, Dec. 14, at 8:00 o’clock and at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood at 9:00 o’clock, where Rev. J.J. Novak, assisted by others, officiated. Interment was made in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Yernie Kovatch, John Jerina, Anton Modic, Frank Sluga, Frank Chamernik and Mike Kovatch.

Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kuznik, Waukegan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. John Hahto and children of Gurnee, Ill.; Vencle Kaucnik of Greensburg, Ohio; and Curly Kaucnik of Waukegan, Ill.
