Jos. Herrian, Sr., had a narrow escape from death last Sunday morning when he was attacked by a vicious boar in the barnyard of his farm just south of town. The boar is owned by Henry Miller, a neighbor, and had escaped from his pen and wandered over to the Herrian farm. Mr. Herrian encountered him in his barnyard and even though he had a pitchfork in his hands to defend himself the hog attacked him and slashed him with his tusks quite badly about the hips. Mr. Herrian took refuge in a water tank as he saw that he was no match for the infuriated animal and the tank standing close to the fence was able to make his escape to the house. Mr. Herrian was alone at the time and he bound a towel about his wounds and made his way to his son’s house near by. Dr. Bradbury was summoned and upon examination it was found that the boar had cut an artery in Mr. Herrian’s leg. He had lost a great amount of blood and was in a very weakened condition when the doctor arrived, which was within a short time after the fight with the hog. Mr. Herrian is getting along nicely now and will pull through unless complications set in.

The hog is an especially vicious one but previously had made no vicious attacks upon anyone. He has been confined in a barn but time and again has been able to make his escape and wander at large, even crawling through a window five feet from the ground. Mr. Herrian had a very narrow escape from death for had he not been able to get away from the hog in the manner he did he would undoubtedly have been killed. –Neillsville Times.
