Melvin Miessner, age 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Miessner who live on the former Henry Forbish farm east of the Baumgart cheese factory, died at St. Mary’s hospital at Wausau Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from injuries received when he was gored by an infuriated bull in the stock yards at Little Chicago. The man died shortly after he was admitted to the hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Zion Ev. Lutheran church in Colby this Thursday afternoon, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Miessner was fatally injured when a bull he was leading from a pen to a truck attacked him from the rear. He died of chest and neck injuries.

The badly injured man was taken to the Wausau hospital from Little Chicago in a truck when the truck driver came upon a county traffic officer’s car on highway 51, about four miles north of Wausau. He stopped and the officer radioed to Wausau for an ambulance, which took the victim to the hospital.

Miessner, and Norbert Bernes, of Marathon, recently went into the business of hauling cattle for the Cooperative Shipping association at Marathon.

Melvin Adolph Miessner was born on January 29, 1918, at Rothiemay, Mont. He served in the U.S. army for 32 months and was discharged in 1944. The funeral will be military.

Surviving are his parents and seven brothers and sisters - Agatha and Mildred of Milwaukee, Wilfred and Clarence of Edgar, Mrs. Helen Berens of Marathon and Edward and Elmer at home.
