Clouse, Eva N. (Marriage - 5 Oct. 1943)

The Methodist Church, Neillsville, was the scene of a beautiful fall wedding on Tuesday evening, October 5, when Miss Eva N. Clouse, daughter of Mrs. Amelia Clouse, became the bride of Henry E. Laffe, son of Mrs. Louisa Haffe, Humbird. The candlelight service took place at 7:30 o’clock, the Rev. Floyd A. Fahlegren, pastor of the church, performing the ceremony. The single ring service was used. For the occasion, the church was decorated with autumn leaves and flowers.

The bride, who was given in marriage by the Rev. Paul B. White, a friend of the family, was attired in a gown of white net over white satin. She wore a finger tip veil with a tiara of crown pearls on satin. Her flowers were peach colored Roosevelt roses, and her jewelry a pearl necklace, and a tiny Lady Elgin wrist watch, a gift of the groom.

The bride’s sister, Miss Gertrude Clouse, as maid of honor, wore a gown of peach net over peach satin. Miss Hilda Laffe, niece of the groom was bridesmaid. She wore aqua net over aqua moiré. Both the maid of honor and the bridesmaid carried colonial bouquets of pastel flowers, and each wore a matching floral head-dress.

The groom wore a conventional brown suit. Sheldon Laffe, nephew of the groom, was best man. The groom and his attendant each wore a Roosevelt rosebud boutonniere.

The ring-bearer, Donald Schlei, nephew of the bride, was dressed in a brown corduroy suit with a white satin blouse, and he also wore a rosebud boutonniere.

The little Misses Elisabeth and Susan Asp were flower girls. They wore floor length, peach taffeta dresses and each carried a basket of pastel flowers and rosebuds.

Mrs. Clouse chose for her daughter’s wedding a fuchsia colored alpaca gown, while Mrs. Laffe, mother of the groom, was attired in a navy blue crepe romaine gown. Each wore a corsage of gardenias.

Ushers for the wedding were Miss Solveig Utoft, and the Misses Marion and Doris Counsell.

Miss Linda Goeres, at the piano, played a fifteen minute prelude of selected music. She also played the wedding march at the opening and the close of the service. Mrs. Leona Hansen sang two solos, "Because" and "At Dawning," accompanied at the piano by Miss Goeres.

Mrs. Laffe is well known in this community. She spent her early life in Loyal, and for the past twelve years she has been a resident of Neillsville. For ten years she has been owner and manager of Eva’s Fashion Shoppe. Mr. Laffe has resided at Humbird all his life. He is owner of the Red and White Store there.

Following the ceremony, a public reception was held in the church parlors, which were also decorated with autumn leaves and flowers.

The bride’s going away outfit was a gold colored jersey suit with luggage accessories.

Mr. and Mrs. Laffe left on a one week’s wedding trip, and after October 16, will be at home to their friends at Humbird, Wis. Though making her home in Humbird, Eva will be often seen in Neillsville, as she will spend here whatever time is necessary to manager her retail business here.
