FORMER ABBOTSFORD GIRL DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Mrs. Clara Chapman passed away at the Olive View Sanitarium near Los Angeles, California, Monday, March 9, 1931, at the age of 31 years, 11 months and 14 days, the result of her death being tuberculosis of the lungs.

Clara Martens was born in Germany, coming to the United States with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Martens, when two years of age. When she was six years old the family came to Abbotsford, Miss Clara entering the village school.

Mrs. Chapman is the daughter of Mrs. Chas. Ipson of Abbotsford, Wis. About tem years ago, finding she was afflicted with tuberculosis, she went to Denver, Colorado, where after a time she was pronounced cured. From Colorado she went to California. Later the dreaded disease returned, finally taking her life.

Her life was gentle. In her heart of hearts she carried those she loved. Her cheerful, helpful life, her devotion as wife and daughter, her kindness to everybody, will long linger as a memory in the homes which her presence brightened.

Besides the husband Mr. Ben Chapman of Los Angeles, she is survived by her mother and step-father Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ipson of Abbotsford, and her daughter Viola who has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Ipson the past five years, and other relatives and many friends.

Burial was made in Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon, March 11th.
