Laurent, Margaret (8 DEC 1905 - 1 SEP 1941)

Miss Margaret Laurent, daughter of Mrs. Frank Laurent of the Town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.), died at a hospital at McCook, Neb., on Monday evening from injuries received in an auto accident. The body will be shipped to Thorp and will lie in state at the Bogumill Funeral Home until the time of the funeral which will be held there at 2:00 o’clock Friday afternoon, Sept. 5th. An obituary will be published next week.

Miss Margaret Laurent, daughter of Mrs. Frank Laurent of the town of Worden, died of injuries received in an automobile accident near McCook, Neb. On Monday, Sept. 1st, 1941. Miss Laurent had been attending summer school in Colorado and was returning home when the accident occurred.

Margaret Josephine Laurent was born in Thorp on Dec. 8, 1905. She attended the local schools and graduated from the Stanley High School in 1924. She taught in the rural and state graded school of Clark County for nine years and received her degree of Bachelor of Education from the State Teachers’ College at River Falls in 1935. She had also been studying at the Colorado State Teachers’ College at Greeley. For the past four years she had been teacher of social science at the Junior High School at Chippewa Falls, Wis. She was a decided success in her profession, popular and dearly beloved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Margaret Laurent of Thorp; three brothers, Francis of Arlington, Va., Arthur of Stanley, and Eugene of Neillsville; two sisters, Eleanore Laurent of Madison and Belle Laurent of Thorp. Her father died in 1914.

The remains arrived here at the Bogumill Funeral Home on Wednesday and lay in state until the hour of the funeral which was held there at 2:00 o’clock on Friday, Sept. 5, Rev. C.R. Gaylord of the Methodist Church of Stanley, officiating. Interment was made in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were Loran Bivans, Gayle Bivans, Byron Boie, Frank Bratz, Raymond Ketterhagen and Wm. Micke.
