Riplinger, Fred (25 Nov. 1876 - 2 July 1955)

Fred Riplinger, a former resident of Colby, died at Riplinger, Wisconsin, Saturday, July 2, at the age of 78 years, a lingering illness being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at the Lulloff Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, July 5, Rev. Harvey Schall officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Mr. Riplinger was born in School Hill, Manitowoc county, on November 25m 1876. His parents were residents of Colby at the time but his mother wanted to be with her folks when the baby was born. In February 1903, he married Bertha Mihlke of Colby, While in Colby, he operated a bowling alley and a tavern. In 1912, he, his brother, Ben, and his father bought the Ayers general store in Riplinger which was named Ausburn at that time. A post office was then established there and the name changed to Riplinger. Fred was the first postmaster of that place and continued in that capacity until he retired but since went into the insurance business.

Surviving are his wife; four children, Ellis Riplinger of Bloomfield, N.J., Frank Riplinger of St. Paul, Minn., Miss Hazel Riplinger, at home, and Mrs. Peter Strom of Virginia, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Zassenhaus, Sr., and Mrs. Angus Lamont, Sr., of Colby; and four grand children. One child died in infancy. Also preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Riplinger was well and favorably known in Colby, especially by the older residents of Colby, Wisconsin, who will long remember him for his honest, congenial and accommodating disposition.
