Klewicki, George (18 APR 1865 - 19 JUL 1942)

A coroner’s inquest was called on Monday to investigate the cause of the death of George Klewicki, 77, who was found dead in the driveway in the rear of his home northwest of the village in the town of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), about six o’clock Sunday evening.

Dr. Kulig was called and he in turn notified the County Coroner, H.L. Brown. Mr. Klewicki was found lying on his back with a gash in his forehead and scratches on his temple, and a quantity of sand in his mouth.

The inquest testimony was heard by Coroner Brown and District Attorney Bruce Beilfuss. Witnesses called to testify were Ludwig Rosenik, Josephine Klewicki, Meri Kospewicz and John Filipek.

Born in Poland, April 18, 1865, Geo. Klewicki had one son, Walter, who lives near this parents’ home. Mrs. Klewicki said she had shaved her father-in-law Sunday and that he had no cuts or scratches on his head at that time.

The jury, who returned an open verdict to the effect that Klewicki came to his death as a result of "causes unknown" were C.C. Guell, Alfred Kass, Louis Boardman, Geo. Becker, John Grabon and Chris Larson.

Ludwig Rosenik, hired man on the Klewicki farm for the past six years was detained pending further investigation of the aged man’s death, but was released on Tuesday.
