Curtiss, Wis. - Aug. 4, 1949

The members of the Evangelical and Reformed Ladies’ Aid enjoyed a picnic at Popple River Park on Wednesday.

Miss Mary Thompson is spending this week at Lake Mackinac with a party of friends from Neenah.

Mr. and Mrs. Grant Herrick and daughter, Mrs. Ralph Peterson and son, Tommy, spent the week-end at Columbus and Racine with their sons, Grant Jr., and Kenneth Herrick, and families.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Konik and family returned on Sunday from a four-day outing at Sand Lake.

Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Thompson spent the week-end with relatives at Menomonie.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Buss and daughter, Joyce, of Muskegon, Mich., are spending some time at their home here.

Miss Nellie Sharp and Mrs. Blanche Allard returned home last week from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where Mr. Allard had been a patient the past three weeks.

The George Hoffs had a family gathering at their home on Sunday in honor of their guests, Mr. Hoff’s sister, Mrs. Al Hackman and daughter, Mrs. Edith Hammond, and Mrs. Ethel Jones of Kingsley, Mich. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Pueschner, Mrs. Laurence Storch of Stetsonville, Joe Hoff, Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Hoff, Wausau, Mrs. Louis Boardman and children, Thorp, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stottenberg and son of Codington.

Funeral services were conducted here on Thursday afternoon, July 28th at the Ev. Lutheran church for Frank H. Matthias, age 73, who passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, on Monday, July 25th, after an eighteen day illness. Rev. G. E. Borreson officiated with burial in the family lot at the parish cemetery. Clark Nissen, accompanied by Dorothy Thompson, sang, "Abide With Me" and "In the Garden." Pall bearers were A. J. Hennlich, Grant Herrick, Alfred M. Erickson, Henry Peterson, Albert Klessig and Geo. Hoff. In charge of the flowers were Mary and Mildred Thompson, Kathryn Peterson, Rae Ann Matthias, Gwendolyn Peterson, Ruth Frank, Martha Laabs, Vera Dean Laabs and Harold Lee Matthias. The deceased’s sons and families, Harold of Ashland and Col. Norman A. of Washington, D.C., and Carl of Norfolk, were present.
