Matthias, Frank H. (17 Dec. 1875 - 25 July 1949)

Frank H. Matthias, 73, who resided in the vicinity of Curtiss since 1915, died at 9:50 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been admitted July 8th. Death followed a three weeks’ illness.

Mr. Matthias was born in Curtiss Dec. 17, 1875, and was graduated from Neillsville High School. He was married at Curtiss May 22, 1901, to Christine Thompson.

After his marriage he was employed as a telegraph operator for the Soo Line Railroad at Glidden until 1915. He then farmed at Curtiss until his retirement in 1946. Since then he has resided in the village of Curtiss.

He was chairman of the town of Hoard for 15 years and served as chairman of the highway committee in Clark county for 10 years. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Abbotsford, Wis.

Surviving besides his wife, are four sons, Harold of Ashland, Col. Norman of the U.S. Army, Washington, D.C., Franklin of Rio de Janeiro, S.A., and Carl of Norfolk, Va. Also a sister and three brothers - Mrs. R. B. Meyer of Gig Harbour, Wash., Alfred of the state of Washington, Adolph of Withee and Emil of Owen. There are eight grand children.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at the Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev. G. E. Borreson of Hayward, a former Curtiss pastor, officiating, and internment will be made in the parish cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted here on Thursday afternoon, July 28th at the Ev. Lutheran church for Frank H. Matthias, age 73, who passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, on Monday, July 25th, after an eighteen day illness. Rev. G. E. Borreson officiated with burial in the family lot at the parish cemetery. Clark Nissen, accompanied by Dorothy Thompson, sang, "Abide With Me" and "In the Garden." Pall bearers were A. J. Hennlich, Grant Herrick, Alfred M. Erickson, Henry Peterson, Albert Klessig and Geo. Hoff. In charge of the flowers were Mary and Mildred Thompson, Kathryn Peterson, Rae Ann Matthias, Gwendolyn Peterson, Ruth Frank, Martha Laabs, Vera Dean Laabs and Harold Lee Matthias. The deceased’s sons and families, Harold of Ashland and Col. Norman A. of Washington, D.C., and Carl of Norfolk, were present.
