Stroud, Harold (1895? - 7 March 1932)

BULLET FATAL TO POLICE OFFICER

The five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stroud of Milwaukee, is the only witness of the fatal shooting in the Stroud home Monday afternoon about one o’clock.

Mr. Stroud, who worked nights on a squad car operating out of No. 7 police station had been in court Monday forenoon on a traffic case and went to his home shortly before one o’clock.

Mrs. Stroud went to the kitchen to prepare the dinner and a few minutes later heard the shot. Upon entering the room she found the father and son on the floor.

Mr. Stroud was at once taken to the county emergency hospital where he died a few minutes later.

From the story told later by the small son it appears that he was in his father’s arms and the gun fell to the floor where it discharged, the bullet entering Mr. Stroud’s temple and both fell to the floor. The child was badly frightened.

Susan Stroud of Abbotsford, mother of Harold Stroud, left Monday evening for Milwaukee, where she is spending the week in the Stroud home.

Funeral services are being held today (Friday) in Fond du Lac.

Mr. Stroud is survived by his wife and little son, his mother, and one sister Mrs. Phil Riley of Los Angeles, California, who have the deep sympathy of their many friends in this community.

*Transcriber note: Year of birth is based on age given in 1905 Wisconsin census (Abbotsford, Clark, WI).
