Etta, Thomas R. #2 (14 DEC 1862 - 27 MAY 1942)

Thomas R. Etta, 78, died Tuesday morning, May 27th at 6:20 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church here Thursday afternoon.

Thomas R. Etta, 78, a resident of Loyal for almost 50 years, died Tuesday morning May 27, at 6:20 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was taken the Thursday previous for an emergency operation.

Thomas Etta was born on Dec. 14, 1862, at New Faine in Fond du Lac County and lived there until he was 21, when he went to work as a mechanic in the neighboring cities. On Oct. 14, 1888 he married Bertha Stange in Greenwood and went to live in Kewaskum for four years.

He came to Loyal in 1892 and went into business with his brother Henry. At first they owned a shingle and planing mill and later a grist mill. As a business man he earned the respect and trust of all who dealt with him.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o’clock from the Methodist Church Thursday afternoon with Rev. Orlando Jewell officiating and assisted by the Rev. Chapman of Spokeville. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery.

Pall bearers were Hal Voight, John Geiger, August Witt, Roy Vogel, Joe Vogel, and Jim Roder. The many beautiful flowers were carried by Mrs. Hal Voight, Mrs. Gunard Hammerstrom, Mrs. Dan Castner, Mrs. C. M. Taylor, Mrs. Roy Vogel, Mrs. Jim Roder, and Mrs. Elmer Newman.

Surviving Mr. Etta are his wife and one son, Clarence, Minneapolis; two daughters Miss Eva Etta at home, and Mrs. Celia Woodkey, Marshfield; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Henry of Loyal, and George, Sunnyside, Wash.’\; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Keorble, Kewaskum; and two half brothers, John and Julius, Kewaskum. A son, Irvin, died 1918 and a son Arthur in 1939.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Etta, Minneapolis; Mrs. Celia Woodkey and children, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Keorble and Mr. and Mrs. John Etta, Kewaskum; Mr. Elmer Etta and Mrs. Minnie Stange, Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stabnow and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pickruhn, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tolleth, Wis. Dells; Mrs. Carl Keiner and children, Eau Claire; Mrs., Charles Woodkey, Rev. James Ogden, Mrs. N. Einerman, Mrs. Arnold Kueng, Mrs. Esther Davis and Gladys Purdy, Marshfield; and Rev. and Mrs. Chapman, Spokeville.
