Dawson, Alice Josephine (29 September 1935 - 22 February 2008)

Alice J. Dawson, age 72, of Cornell, formerly of Lublin, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Cornell Area Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Sindler officiated and burial followed in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Lublin.

Visitation was held on Wednesday at Thorp Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Alice J. Gajda-Dawson, age 72, of Cornell, formerly of Lublin, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Cornell Area Care Center.

Alice Josephine Hargot was born on September 29, 1935, in Lublin, WI, to Joseph J. and Anna C. (Janiec) Hargot. She was raised in Lublin and received her education in the Lublin area, graduating from Owen-Withee High School in 1954. She enlisted into the U.S. Air Force on December 6, 1954. Alice received an early discharge so she could return home to care for her ailing mother. After her mother’s death, she moved to Chicago where she worked as a switch-board operator. Alice was united in marriage to Raymond J. Gajda on August 12, 1955 at St. Joseph’s and St. Ann’s Catholic in Chicago. In 1962, they moved back to Lublin and farmed. Alice worked as a secretary for the Post Company in Owen for several years. She later went to work as a secretary for Thorp Finance, where she was in charge of payroll. She and her husband, Raymond, moved to Eau Claire and then later divorced. Alice was united in marriage to Howard Dawson. They moved back to Alice’s home farm in Lublin. Her husband, Howard, later passed away. She continued to reside in Lublin until entering the nursing home on June 16, 2003.

Alice was a former member of the Civil Air Patrol in Eau Clarie, a former member of the V.F.W. in Eau Claire, and had many interests, but especially enjoyed crossword puzzles, baking and playing pool.

She is survived by one son, Gary (Marlene) Gajda of Lublin; three granddaughters: Michelle, Heidi and Jennifer; cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; and one son, Robert Gajda.
