Berg, Warren M. (1 Nov. 1935 - 22 Feb. 2008)

Warren Berg, 72, Colby, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

A mass of Christian burial was held Feb. 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father John Gualberk, Pastor of St Mary’s Catholic Church and Father Donald Berg concelebrated the mass. Burial was in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #358 of Unity.

Warren was born November 1, 1935, to Raymond and Mary (Sazama) in Colby, Wis. He attended Lone Pine School and St. Mary’s Parochial School until the eight grade. He entered Colby High School and graduated in 1953. While attending high school he also worked at this father’s cheese factory.

On August 10, 1962, he entered the military as reserve of the Army where he worked as a welder. He was later honorably discharged.

Warren married Phyllis Banie on August 17, 1968, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Edgar. They then moved to Colby and he went back to working in the cheese factory for many years.

After the factory ceased production,. He began work with Mullins Cheese located in Riplinger and Knowlton as a milk hauler. He retired form Mullins Cheese in 2001.

Warren came out of retirement and began driving bus for North Central Health Care Center until the time of his death.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, watching western movies and was an avid Packers fan.

Warren was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic, Church and a member of the Catholic, Order of Foresters and the American Legion Post #358 of Unity.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two children, Joseph (Joan) Berg, Colby, and Karen Berg, Colby; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty (Edward) Miller; Merrill, and Jean (David) Haffa, Marshfield.

Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home, Abbotsford, assisted the family with arrangements.
