Stettler, Fred (22 Nov. 1867 - 5 Aug. 1951)

Fred Stettler, Sr., died at his home in Colby, Sunday, Aug. 5th, a stroke, suffered seven days previously, being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Evangelical and Reformed church, Rev. Franz P. Puhlmann officiating. There were no pall bearers nor flower girls as the body will be moved to Fountain City this Thursday morning and a second funeral service will be held in the Emmanuel and Reformed church at Eagle Valley, Wis., Thursday, Aug. 9th, with Rev. Puhlmann and Rev. Melvin C. Witner of Fountain City officiating. Internment will be made at Eagle Valley (Fountain City), Wisconsin.

Mr. Stettler was born in Emmenthal, Canton de Berne, Switzerland, on November 22, 1867, thus reaching the age of 83 years, eight months and 13 days. He came to the United States in 1884 and settled in Eagle Valley (Fountain City), Wis., where he married Irsula Jobs on October 31, 1891. They came to this community in 1920 and engaged in farming. Mrs. Stettler died March 1, 1943.

Surviving are six children, Mrs. Alice Kingsley of Ekalaka, Mont., Victor Stettler of Colby, Max Stettler of Winona, Minn., Oswald Stettler of Winona, Minn., Fred Stettler, Jr., of Colby and Oliver Stettler of Abbotsford; one brother, Ernest Stettler of Eagle Valley, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Rosena Schaffer and Mrs. Anna Engel, both of Fountain City; 17 grand children and 13 great grand children.

The deceased was a faithful member of the First Evangelical and Reformed church and held office as a member of the consistory. He contributed liberally to Kingdom work and was well known for his friendly and congenial disposition. He was honest in all his dealings and was respected by all who knew him.
