Peterson, Edwin M. (27 Sept. 1890 - 13 Dec. 1951)

Edwin M. Peterson, a member of the Clark County, Wis. Draft Board and prominent in county and local affairs, died last Thursday morning, at the age of 61 years, at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital, a heart attack being the cause of his death. He had been in poor health since July. Funeral services were held at the Ev. Lutheran church at Curtiss Sunday afternoon and internment was made in the parish cemetery.

Clark Nissen, accompanied by Miss Mary Thompson, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Prayer Perfect." Pall bearers were John Lokken, Cornell Erickson, Alfred Erickson, Ernest Mowery, Ed Beck and Harold Matthias. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Anna Mowery, Mrs. Jean Bakke, Mrs. Elizabeth Kivikko, Mrs. Pearl Lokken, Mrs. Martha Laabs and Mrs. Grace Kallio.

Mr. Peterson, a resident of the Curtiss vicinity his entire life, was born Sept. 27, 1890. He received his education in Curtiss and graduated from Colby High School. He also graduated from a short course in agriculture at the University of Wisconsin. His marriage to the former Anna Thompson took place in Curtiss June 19, 1920.

He served as president of the Farmers Union for about 15 years, was a director of the Farmers Union Oil Company and was town chairman for the P.M.A. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had been a prominent Holstein breeder in the town of Hoard until his retirement five years ago.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ralph at home and Arthur, a member of the faculty at the University of Wisconsin; three grand children; two sisters, Mrs. John Jarrange of Foster, Ore., and Mrs. Anna Peterson of Curtiss; three brothers, Anton of Bend, Ore., Alfred of Oakland, Calif., and Lawrence of Chicago. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Peterson, Edwin M. #2 (27 Sep 1890 - 13 Dec 1951)

Edwin M. Peterson succumbed to a heart condition and illness which had plagued him ever since last July, at 6:30 Thursday, Dec. 13th, 1951. He was a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, at the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted from the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Curtiss, at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Otis Odland officiated at the final rites and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Cornel Erickson, Alfred Erickson, Ernest Mowery and John Lokken, Curtiss; C. E. Beck, Owen and Harold Matthias, Ashland.

Honorary pallbearers were five brother Masons, H. H. Christophersen, Colby; W. A. Fritz, Lorraine Fritz and John Potocnik, Owen, and Grant Herrick, Curtiss.

Mr. Peterson was a pioneer resident of the Curtiss community, having been born and raised here. He was born on Sept. 27, 1890, attending the Curtiss State Graded School and graduating from the Colby High School. Later he attended the University of Wisconsin, being graduated from the short course in agriculture. His numerous friends and acquaintances will remember him as an energetic, civic minded citizen who gave untiring of his time for community betterment.

He served for more than 15 years as president of the Farmers Union, was a director of the Farmers Union Oil Co., was town chairman for the P.M.A. and a member of the Masonic Lodge, and until his retirement five years ago he was a prominent Holstein breeder.

Since his illness in July he had spent considerable time in the hospital and confinement to his home. However, the past several weeks he had been able to enjoy an occasional auto drive and brief visits with friends whom he might see on the streets of the city. About a week ago he was in the the city visiting with friends, as he sat in his car with his daughter-in-law, lamenting the fact that the past deer season was the first one he had missed in 42 years.

He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Thompson, whom he married on June 19, 1920 at Curtiss; two sons, Ralph, on the home farm, and Arthur, a member of the faculty at the University of Wisconsin; three grandchildren; two sister, Mrs. Jorn Harrange, Foster, Oregon; and Lawrence of Chelsea.

Among the out of town people attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Jens Klavestad, Whitehall; Mr. and Mrs. Ragnavald Berg, Strum; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hagenbarth of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Selenski, Weyerhauser; Mr. and Mrs. Frances Tuttle, Tom Tuttle, Marshfield; Mrs. J. E. Simpson, Sturgeon Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Matthias and son of Ashland, Dr. Nolecheck, Thorp; John Wuethrich, Greenwood; Herbert Smith and Marden Chase, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Kline, Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Peterson, Madison.
