Bright, Verna (Marriage - 1 JAN 1942)

On New Year’s day at 4:30 p.m. amidst holiday decorations, Miss Verna Bright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bright of Wausaukee, and Thure A. Johnson Jr., son of Rev. and Mrs. Thure Johnson of Marinette, were united in holy matrimony in the Owen Gospel Tabernacle, Owen. They were attended by the groom’s sister, Rev. Florence Johnson of Egeland, N. D., and a brother of the groom, Wesley, of Marinette.

Rev. Thure A. Johnson, father of the groom, assisted by Rev. Mrs. Elmer Jensen of Dorchester, a sister of the groom, were the officiating ministers.

The bridal party marched into the church to the strains of Lohengrin’s wedding march, played by Miss Violette Johnson of Egeland, N. D., a sister of the groom. The songs, I Love You Truly, and Blest Be The Tie That Binds, were sung by Violette, accompanied at the piano by Miss Dorothy Marking of Owen.

The bride was dressed in royal blue chiffon velvet with draw-string pockets and self-covered buttons at the back to the waist line. She wore three strand pearls, a gift of the bridegroom.

The bride’s attendant wore a brown crepe dress trimmed in pink and gold. Each wore a shoulder bouquet of pink and white carnations. The groom and his attendant wore a white carnation and the officiating ministers wore pink carnations.

The wedding dinner was served at the home of Mrs. Molly Jensen of Dorchester, Wis. The table was centered with a four-tier wedding cake and white candles in crystal holders. The room was decorated in seasonal colors and an electric candelabra.

Guests at the dinner included the members of the immediate families and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gaurke and daughter, Joyce, and son, Eugene, of Abbotsford; Elroy Jensen of River Falls; Lawrence Jensen and Mrs. Mollie Jensen of Dorchester; and Arnold Engstrand of Egeland, N. D.

The bridal couple will make their home at Marinette, where the groom is employed at Feldstein’s Jewelry store.
