John Meyer (6 Jun 1857 – 12 Dec1934)

Dorchester, Dec. 13 – John Meyer, one of the few remaining pioneers of the Dorchester vicinity, died at 3:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Guth.

Death followed an illness of several weeks duration. He was 77 years old.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Edwin Guth home and at 2 p.m. at the Peace Evangelical church, with the Rev. J. R. Kalwitz officiating.

Mr. Meyer was born in Manitowoc county June 6, 1857, the son of Fred and Sophia (Carson) Meyer. In 1878 he came to Clark county, where he purchased 80 acres of the present farm site in Mayville township, later buying an additional tract of 80 acres.

He was married Sept. 8, 1882 to Helen Lapp. Ten children were born to them, (Anne) Mrs. Edward Hauk, Edward, (Elsie) Mrs. Harvey Blue, (Luisa) Mrs. Edwin Guth, Albert, Charles, Herman, Harvey, Rosalia, and Emil.

At one time, Mr. Meyer served for three years on the township board, and was a member of the school board for about 10 years.
