A very pretty wedding occurred Saturday, Oct. 23, 1943 at St. Mary’s Church in Stanley at 9:30, when Miss Irene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Berdal, became the bride of Edward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Slowiak of Stanley, Rev. Francis Wallace performed the ceremony.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She was charming in a white marquisette gown with a long train and a floor length veil. Her bouquet consisted of carnations and white roses. She also carried a pearl rosary, a gift of the groom.

A solemn part of the ceremony was when the bride place a bouquet on the Blessed Virgin’s altar.

The bride chose as her maid of honor, Miss Helen Slowiak, sister of the groom. She wore a pink brocaded taffeta gown with a blusher to match. Her bouquet was made up of carnations and pink roses.

Little Dolores Olichwier, niece of the groom, acted as a surprise flower girl. She wore a long blue rayon satin dress with a blusher to match, and carried a bouquet of roses and carnations.

Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Ann Dzienkowski, who wore an aqua marine taffeta gown and Mrs. Alex Slowiak, who wore a pink brocaded taffeta gown, Miss Dolores Sorenson, who wore a blue brocaded taffeta gown, and Miss Mary Bill, who wore pink brocaded taffeta. They all wore blushers to match their gowns and all carried bouquets of carnations and pink roses.

The groom’s attendants were Carl Slowiak, as best man; Joe Meske, Lawrence Berdal and Leon Slowiak. The groom and his attendants wore tuxedos with white boutonnieres and the groom wore a gardenia boutonniere.

The bride’s mother was dressed in a soldier blue crepe dress and the groom’s mother wore a caramel crepe dress. Both wore corsages.

The reception was held at the Stanley auditorium after the ceremony. Dinner and supper was served to around 150 families. The music was furnished by the Nightingales of Thorp.

Out of town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Prueher of Chippewa Falls; Lt. and Mrs. Walter Berdal of Fort Belvoir, Va.; Major Leo Veeser of Camp McCoy; Miss Albina Berdal and Mrs. Alex Slowiak of Eau Claire; Mrs. Chester Liszewski and daughters, Mrs. Edgar Hammerberg and Miss Theresa Nikoski, of Chicago.
