Zager, Peter Emil (14 August 1916 - 8 March 2008)

Peter Zager, 91, of Neillsville died Saturday, March 8, 2008, in the Emergency Room of the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

Peter Emil Zager was born August 14, 1916, in North Dakota, the son of Peter and Mary (Glavin) Zager, who came to America from Yugoslavia in 1912. When he was two years old, his family moved to Wisconsin and Pete attended and graduated from the Willard State Grade School in 1931. He then worked various jobs in the area. On January 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Ormond in Neillsville. Later Pete worked for the Nelson Muffler Factory and retired from there in the late ‘70s after 29 years.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one son, Captain Bernard (Thyra) Zager, USAF Retired of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Patricia Zager of Rice Lake; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Shirley) Zager of St. Cloud, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services for Pete will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neilslville. Fr. Woodrow H. Pace will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Honorary casket bearers are: Bernard Zager, Andrew Zager, Matthew Zager, Jason Dunphy, Nathan Dunphy and Noah Dunphy.

Casket bearers are family members.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Pete’s family with funeral arrangements.
