Cook, Mabel (13 Jan. 1880 - 1 Sept. 1956)

Miss Mabel Cook, Chicago, Ill., passed away September 1 in a hospital there of complications resulting from a hip injury suffered in a fall.

The body arrived Wednesday morning on the train at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, where funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Roger Knutsen officiating. Burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Miss Cook was born January 13, 1880 at Unity, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cook. She taught school at Milan, Unity and Hortonville before becoming Marathon County’s first supervising teacher and later became assistant Superintendent of schools. She had made her home in Chicago for a number of years.

Surviving are two brothers, George S. Cook of Unity and Raymond D. Cook of Marathon City; and a sister, Mrs. Edith M. Tollefson, St. Paul, Minn. Besides her parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers preceded her in death.

She had visited in this vicinity, the last time being last October when she was called by the death of her brother, Assemblyman Walter E. Cook.

Funeral services were held at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, last Wednesday afternoon for Miss Mabel Cook, 75, who passed away at Chicago Sept. 2. The Rev. Roger Knutsen, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated and burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Miss Syrl Andrews, Spencer, a great niece, sang "Abide With Me" and "The Lord’s Prayer" during the service.

Pallbearers, all of them nephews, were R. H. Cook, of Wausau, Glen Mason, Thiensville, Donald Cook, Wausau, Sewell Cook, Wisconsin Rapids, Rod Cook, Colby and Cal Cook, Unity.

Out-of-town people at the rites included Mrs. Edith Tollefson, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mason, Mr. and Mrs. ? H. Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cook, Marathon; Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Cook, Wisconsin Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Capes, Marshfield; Mrs. R. P. Andrews and Syrl, Spencer; Mrs. Lita Niehaus and Carol, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Healy, Stanely; Mr. and Mrs. Rod Cook, Mrs. Belva Loney, Miss Lydia Jones, Mrs. Otto Hines and Mrs. Donald Coates, Colby, Wis.
