Kanter, Herbert Peter (16 Mar. 1897 - 28 Feb. 1959)

Funeral services were held at 9:30 A.M. Monday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Colby for Herbert Peter Kanter, 61, Unity, Wisconsin who died at his home Thursday of a heart attack. The Rev. John Pinion officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

The body reposed at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, Wis.

Pallbearers were Ervin Meyer, Ervin Primeau, Frank Jordan, Fred Loughead, Bernard Tennis, Otto Atcherson.

The school children sang the Mass accompanied by Sister Clementine.

The Colby VFW conducted military rites at the graveside and furnished the color guard and firing squad.

Relatives and friends attending the final rites were from Ada, Michigan; Watervliet, Mich,; Lodi, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Marshfield, Wauwatosa, Dorchester, Athens, Abbotsford, Loyal, Baraboo and Colby, Wis.

Mr. Kanter was born March 16, 1897 at Marshfield. He received his education in the Colby public schools. He farmed most of his life and had lived in Unity the past four years.

He married the former Ella Weller on October 20, 1920 at Colby, Wis.

He was a veteran of World War I, past commander and adjutant of the Unity American Legion, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Donald, Milwaukee; five grandchildren; two brothers, Clement Kanter, San Bernadino, Calif.; and Reuben Kanter; and seven sisters, Mrs. Alta Kohlbeck, Ada, Mich.; Mrs. Odelia Hassenorhl, Colby; Mrs. Martina Cleary, Watervliet, Mich.; Mrs. Marcella Carberry, Lodi; Mrs. Olivia Zinthefer, Sheboygan; Mrs. Lucine Benjamin, Monterey Park, Calif.; and Mrs. Rosalia Baumgart, Unity.
