Wilson, Isabella (19 MAY 1850 - 15 DEC 1941)

Mrs. Isabella Wilson departed this life Monday morning, December 15, 1941, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schultz, where she had been tenderly cared by Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. Zuege, her daughters, with the assistance of friends, since fracturing her hip in a fall on November 22, pneumonia and other complications developed which were the immediate cause of her death.

Mrs. Wilson, nee Isabella Watson, was born of Scotch ancestry May 19, 1850, in Stratford, Ont., Canada, becoming the bride of Henry Wilson in the year 1869. In 1890 when the United States was offering homesteads in North Dakota the Wilsons were among those of pioneer spirit who took advantage of this opportunity. Here Mrs. Wilson acted as an angel of mercy in ministering to many settlers far removed from medical care. In 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Wilson moved to Long Beach, California, remaining ther until 1921, when they came to Loyal to make their home near their daughters, Mable and Ida.

Mr. Wilson died in 1925. Ever since then, with the exception of two years spent with a daughter, May, in California, Mrs. Wilson has made her home with her daughter, Ida, who gave her the love and attention she so richly deserved. The annual birthday parties were so eagerly looked forward to by Mrs. Wilson and those who were privileged to be guests. There was always a little program during which Mrs. Wilson by some song or word of testimony would tell of her faith in the life beyond this. She often talked to her daughter of her departure from this life and the many details were arranged by them. Many who have been guests at her parties have gone on before, and we like to think of them greeting her on the other shore. When next May 19 comes we who are left behind will remember as we think of Mrs. Wilson that: "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard or hath it entered into the heart of man the things the Lord hath prepared for those that love Him." It will be her very happiest birthday.

Mrs. Wilson will be missed at the Methodist Church, of which she was a member and a faithful attendant. Though she was unable to hear the services she entered into the spirit of worship most devoutly and her presence with her daughter Ida was always an inspiration. Those who did not know Mrs. Wilson can join in admiration for her active 91 years and the qualities which held her friends during those years.

Of the five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Wilson four survive; Mrs. Ida Schultz, Loyal; Mrs. Mabel Zuege, Milwaukee; Mrs. Mary Ledford, Long Beach, Cal., and Alexander Wilson, Chicago, Ill. Also ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren besides nieces and nephews in Michigan and Canada, four of whom attended Mrs. Wilson’s party last May.

The funeral service was held on the beautiful Friday afternoon of December 19, Rev. Jewel officiating. Mrs. Calvin Prior and Raymond Colby sang "Nearer My God to Thee," "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."

Those who carried the lovely floral offerings were miss Julia Habhegger, Mrs. Herb White, Mrs. Ray Prior, Mrs. Maude Volk, Mrs. Carl Christensen and Mrs. Ed Vick. Those who bore Mrs. Wilson to her tomb were William Habhegger, Herbert White, Roy Thomas, Ray Prior, Carl Christensen and Edgar Vick.
