Longwood Fire
The G. B. Andrews store and dwelling at Longwood, Wis. was totally destroyed by fire Monday night, [Jan. 6th] the occupants of the building saving themselves from perishing in the flames by escaping with such articles of clothing as they could gather up as they fled. The loss is estimated at about $7,000 of which $5,000 is covered by insurance.
The fire was discovered at about twelve o’clock, when Mrs. Andrews awoke to find the building in flames. The family had retired at about ten o’clock, up to which time nothing in nature of fire was noticed, and it was a fortunate circumstance that Mrs. Andrews woke up as early as was the case, as a few minutes latter would have been too late for the occupants of the second floor to save themselves.--Withee Journal
