Lavey, Norbert L. (1 JAN 1927 - 5 APR 2008)

Norbert Lavey, 81, Nekoosa, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the Strawberry Lane Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wisconsin Rapids. The Lavey family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, April 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m., at Nekoosa United Church of Christ. The Rev. Mary Anne Biggs will officiate.

Norbert LaVerne Lavey was born Jan. 1, 1927, in York Township, Clark County, to Glenn and Elizabeth (nee Johnson) Lavey. He received his elementary school education at York Township’s Oriole Hill and Romadka Grade Schools. He graduated from Granton High School in 1944. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 as a member of the 11th Airborne Division. He married Jean Kronberger on Nov. 26, 1951, at the York Center Methodist Church. After returning from military service, he operated a small dairy farm in York Township and also worked as a cheese maker. In 1961, he relocated his family to Nekoosa where he worked as a paper mill employee for Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company (now Domtar) until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Nekoosa United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; his children, Steven, Richfield, Minn.; Brian (Kay), Nekoosa; and Brad, Richland Center; two additional daughters-in-law, Ann Lavey, Grand Prairie, and Janet Johnson, Richland Center; five grandchildren, Jenna Lavey, Oshkosh; Ian Lavey, Nekoosa; Niles Lavey, Ft. Richardson, Alaska; Mason Lavey, Middleton; and Owen Lavey, Richland Center; one brother David (Beverly) Lavey, Granton; and one sister, Joan Buchanan, Wisconsin Rapids.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother-in-law, Jack Buchanan.

Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home, Nekoosa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
