Herman, Mary (23 MAR 1873 - 1 JUL 1945)

Mrs. Andrew Herman, 72, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Ebben here (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) at two o’clock Monday afternoon, July 2nd, 1945. She suffered a stroke four years ago and recently another which left her in a helpless condition. She and her husband came to the village about three weeks ago.

Funeral services will be held at St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock Thursday morning, July 5th. The body now lies in state at the Thorp Funeral Home.

Mrs. Andrew Herman passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Ebben on July 1st, 1945, from a paralytic stroke at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 5 days.

Mary Rosenthal was born in Poland on March 25, 1873. She came to America in 1896 at the age of seven. She was united in marriage to Andrew Herman on Jan. 28th, 1889. They lived in Tarnow, Nebraska for seven years. In 1896 they moved to Thorp, which has since been their home. She was ailing six years and about a year ago moved to her daughter’s home in Thorp, where she passed away Sunday afternoon at two o’clock.

Mrs. Herman will never be forgotten for her kindness. Her smiling face and gentle voice will always be remembered. She was always willing to give a helpful hand to those around her. We lost a good Samaritan when we lost her. She is mourned by her husband, Mr. Andrew Herman, six sons and six daughters, they are: Stanley Herman, Thorp, Frank Herman, Chicago, Mrs. Frank (Lucy) Wilcenski, Gilman, George Herman, Thorp, Wm. Herman, Chicago, Mrs. Harvey (Clara) Ebben, Thorp, Mrs. Tony (Vic) Wilcenski, Gilman, Mrs. Jas. (Helen) Boylan, Withee, Mrs. Patrick (Mayme) Milligan, Mrs. Hermiss (Anna) Schmidt, Thorp, C.W. O. Clem R. Herman, U.S. Army, somewhere in Okinawa, Sgt. Marion E. Herman, U.S. Army, Ft. Meade, Maryland; also twenty-three grandchildren and one brother, Nick Rosenthal of Grant, Wis., and three sisters, Mrs. George Chilla, Mrs. Frank Brill, Mrs. Frank Strike, all of Stevens Point.

The pallbearers were Mrs. Herman’s five sons, Stanley, Frank, George, William and Sgt. Marion A., nephew Raymond Zaborowski, took the place of the sixth son Clem, who is serving overseas, the only child who was unable to attend his mother’s funeral.

Mrs. Mary Herman lay in state at the Thorp Funeral Home surrounded by beautiful flowers. A requiem mass was held at St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock Thursday morning, July 5th. The burial in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery was led by a large number of Sisters of the Rosary to Mrs. Herman’s last resting place, Rev. Francis Piekarski officiating.
