Lund, Carl Jr. (30 AUG 1924 - 6 JUL 1945)

Pfc. Carl Lund Jr., who was killed on Luzon, July 6th, 1945, was the oldest son of Carl and Florence Newlon Lund, Stanley, Wis.

He was born in Neenah, Wis., Aug. 30, 1924. He came to Stanley with his folks at the age of 11 years and attended the Peterson School and the Stanley High School.

In 1941 he joined the CCC at Menomonie, Wis. Sept. 2, 1942 he married Amelia Cornwell, daughter of Earl Cornwell, Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.

During that time and up until he was inducted intot he army Nov. 29, 1944 he was a trucker. He hauled milk for the Ladysmith Creamery at Stanley and was a general trucker for Edwin Schmidt of this city.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Allan, two and one-half years and Duane, 13 months, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lund Sr., five sisters and three brothers, Lucille (Mrs. Joe Dikancie) of Sheboygan, Dorothy (Mrs. Clarence White) Stanley, Wis., Gerald in the army, stationed on the Philippines, being 50 miles from Carl and never met him; Gordon, Donald, Shirley, Marylyn and Mary Ann at home. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Newlon, Waterloo, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Lund, Stanley, Wis. And a host of other relatives and friends.

As a soldier he fought valiantly to the last in his country’s greatest need. He was given a Christian burial with full military honors.
