Lampi, Matt (2 SEP 1910 - 18 JAN 1945)

Matt Lampi, 36, residing three miles east and one mile south of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), was instantly killed late this afternoon, when the body of a dump truck dropped on his neck and shoulders, while he was making some repairs. The accident happened in the yard at his home.

Lampi had raised the body of the truck with a hydraulic hoist, and it was while he was working on the truck that the hoist gave way, and let the body down suddenly on his neck and body while he was at work. His neck was either broken of he died of suffocation.

Frank Juntunen, a neighbor was summoned, and the Owen High School bus, driven by Jens Smith, was stopped, and he and some of the boys helped to raise the truck body to extricate Mr. Lampi. He was brought to the office of Dr. B.H. Dike, where he was pronounced dead.

Lampi was married and was the father of two children. He had been engaged in the trucking business for the last several years, hauling logs and gravel as a contract service.

At this time no funeral arrangements have been made.
