HARRIET A STEIVANG

Harriet A. Steivang, age 89, longtime resident of Stanley, WI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Oakbrook Health & Rehab Center, Thorp, WI.

Services were held on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanley, WI with Pastor Linda Dutton officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery, Stanley, WI. Friends and family called from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.

Harriet was born September 27, 1918 in Lublin, WI, the daughter of Walter & Hattie (Kwapinski) Burzynski. She grew up in the Lublin area and attended area rural schools. At age 16 she moved to Milwaukee, WI where she did housework and waitressing, later moving to Chicago, IL in 1937 where she worked at Goldbalt Dept. Store. In 1952 she and her first husband Frank Nick moved to Stanley, WI where they purchased the Otter Lake Resort, rural Stanley operating that for a few years. She then worked for the Stanwood Corporation until 1965. On June 9, 1962 Harriet was united in marriage to Alfred Steivang, residing in Stanley and later was employed at the Victory Memorial Nursing Home. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and tending her flowers, dancing to Polka music and raising poodles. Over the years Harriet sewed many quilts, donating them to the missions and her family.

Harriet is survived by her son, Bruce F. (Wanda) Nick, of Bensenville, IL; brothers: Marion Burzynski of Chippewa Falls, WI, Stanley (Vera) Burzynski of Vega, TX, Edward Burzynski of Monongahela, PA, and Louis and Louise Burzynski of Piney Flats, TN; sister, Estelle Kroepfl, of Port Washington, WI; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; brothers: Leo, Frank, Walter and Michael; and sisters: Marie Pawlak and Toni Van Overmeiren.
