Selves, Byron (8 Oct. 1889 - 8 Dec. 1944)

Byron Selves died at the Midway Hospital, St. Paul, Friday, December 8, 1944 from leukemia. The funeral was held Monday, December 11, from the Methodist Church at Grantsburg, with the Rev. Grover officiating. Burial was made in the family lot at Grantsburg.

Bryon Selves was born in Neillsville October 8, 1889, to Elmer and Emma Selves. He attended the Neillsville Schools and Business College, and left Neillsville in 1912, moving to Grantsburg. He purchased the abstract business there, and also sold insurance and handled all the loans and real estate conditional sales contracts in Burnett County. He soon branched out in the pulpwood business, later forming a partnership with James Corcoran of Webster, Wis. Their holdings are at present in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

He was married to Ruth Anderson of Grantsburg of January 4, 1915. He was a public spirited man, and a leader in civic improvements. Through his efforts, Grantsburg has a hospital, sewer system, paved streets, golf course and a fine school building. Byron was a frequent visitor here. His many friends will miss his genial manner and his pleasing smile. To his home town his passing means a great loss.

Hugh Selves of Neillsville and Madison is a brother of the deceased.
