Smith, Everett Allen (8 July 1925 - 2 Aug. 1945)

Everett Allen Smith, 20, Neillsville, died at the Neillsville hospital at noon Thursday, August 2. He had been suffering from a kidney ailment for some time and had been seriously ill for about eight weeks. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 5, at the Jaster funeral home. Rev. Floyd A. Fahlgren of the Methodist church officiated and internment was made in the Neillsville cemetery.

Everett Smith was born in Sturgeon Bay July 8, 1925, to Alice and Bergen Smith. He had been a resident of Clark county since he was two years old, his parents having moved here at that time. He received his education in the Neillsville schools and attended the Neillsville high school for two years. In the past he had been employed by the Fullerton Lumber company, but just recently he had worked for the Nash-Kelvinator company in Kenosha. He returned to Neillsville in March of this year. Last Monday his parents took him to the Neillsville hospital. Prior to that he had received treatments at the Madison hospital.

Everett is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bergen Smith, five brothers and four sisters. They are: Ralph, 18, who is in service; Herbert, 15; Oakley, 13; Arlo, 11; Duane, 1 ½ years; Marie, 17; Bonnie, 10; Gladys, 5; and Nancy, 3. His grandparents also survive. They are: Mr. and Mrs. S. A. D. Smith of Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Hyland of Iron Mountain, Mich.

Relatives from out-of-town who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. Smith’s mother, Mrs. A. Hyland, and her sisters, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. John Zeoller and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pugh, all from Iron Mountain, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Brendenihl and family of Rice Lake; Mr. Smith’s brother Wilbur Smith and family, and his sister, Mrs. Nettie Vine Smith, and her daughter, Mrs. Henry Garski, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Nettie Vine Smith’s other daughter, Mrs. Stanley Austin and family, and her son, Donald Vine, all of Madison; and a friend, Mrs. John Ramker and two children of Colby, Wis.

Pallbearers were boys who had been friends or schoolmates of the young man. They were: Kenneth Kren, Robert Wilsman, Gordon Gerhardt, Donald Anderson, Robert Schultz and Ellsworth Shock.

Pvt. Ralph, Everett’s brother, left Monday night for his station at Camp Fannin, Texas. Marie will leave later in the week for Milwaukee, where she is employed. They came last week before the death of their brother.
