WILLARD BOY INJURED IN GEARS OF ENGINE

Unable To Get A Doctor Immediately

Roland McCune, the five year old son of Arthur McCune, of Willard, was seriously hurt on Tuesday evening by falling into a pump engine. The McCunes reside on a farm southeast of Willard and on Thursday afternoon while the engine was running Roland was caught in the gears of the engine by his coat and was thrown around and around by the wheel. His little body struck against the engine and before assistance could come, Roland was most severely lacerated and bruised. The frightened father carried the little son into the house, but was afraid to examine the wounds. As there was no phone at the McClune farm home, it was necessary to go to the neighbors to call a doctor. After calling Greenwood and being unable to locate a doctor, they hardly knew what to do and finally they called Neillsville and located Dr. H. W. Housley, who hurried to the McClune farm. The accident happened at 4 o'clock, but Dr. Housley did not get the call until 5:30. He reached the McCune farm about 6:30 and found the little boy still lying where his father had placed him and no one dared to touch him. Upon examination it was found that one forearm was seriously cut and bruised, that one arm was gashed and broken above the elbow and that several deep gashed appeared on his head. Several stitches were taken and the arm put in a splint. Little Roland is now on the gain.
