Geiger, John Edward (5 July 1865 - 19 October 1946)

By Mrs. H. C. Conklin, news reporter:

John Edward Geiger died at his home in Thorp after a lengthy illness on October 19, 1946. He had attained the age of 81 years, four months and 14 days. The body lay in state at the Thorp Funeral Home until Monday, October 21, (1946), when it was taken to the Thorp Funeral Home. There services were conducted by the Rev. James Irish. Several sacred songs were sung by Mrs. Gayle Bivens and Rev. Nancy Mitchelien of Stanley with Mrs. Leslie Hanson at the organ.

John E. Geiger was born July 5, 1865, to John and Josephine Geiger at Cassville, Wis., where Mr. Geiger grew to manhood. He attended school at Lansing, Iowa, where he learned cabinet making. He also attended Northwest Business College at Madison, Wis. He then located at Brooklyn, Wis., where he was married to Gertrude Andrews on October 26, 1887. To them was born one son, Vivian Geiger, who with an aged sister, Miss Pauline Geiger, survives him. Mrs. Geiger died some four years ago.

The Geigers lived in Beloit for some time, where Mr. Geiger worked for the Fairbanks Morse Co. In 1889 the family moved to Thorp and purchased a farm near the village, where they lived until 1913. Then they built a beautiful home on the southeast side of town, which has since been their residence. Mr. Geiger taught cabinet making in the manual training department of the Thorp High School during World War I. He also was a trustee of the Thorp Public Library, as well as trustee of the Methodist Church of Thorp.

Interment was made Tuesday at Brooklyn, Wis., where Mrs. Geiger is buried.
