Abbotsford Exchange Day (30 AUG 1934)

Abbotsford Exchange Day this Saturday is going to be a day of varied activity. A famous girl’s orchestra has been engaged, which will furnish music and entertainment during the day.

At 10:30 in the morning a decorated doll buggy parade will be held for girls 12 years old and under. The girl with the doll buggy most attractively dressed up will receive a prize. After this a prize will be awarded to the boy, 12 years old or under, who appears in the best laugh-provoking comic get-up. A bicycle race is scheduled for boys 16 and under. The race starts at the corner of Main street and Wing’s Drug store and ends at Crane’s corner. A 100 yard hoop rolling contest will give the youngsters a chance to display their skill and speed. A rope jumping endurance contest for girls will also be held at this time.

At 1:30 in the afternoon a boxing contest which should be of interest to everybody, will be held. Nine rounds of boxing have been arranged for between some young fellows who pack a wallop and who can take it.

At 2:00 o’clock the auction will be held.

A Sales Mart will be held during the day in the Banditt store building. If you have any produce you wish to sell, a space will be provided where it may be displayed and sold. Anything that is left at the time of the auction may be sold by this means.

A big, free married folks dance, sponsored by the Thompson Oil Co., will be held at the Armory in the evening. Music will be furnished by Mickies’ Entertainers. There will be free check-room service, everything will be free, in fact it is rumored that there will be free refreshments. A cordial invitation by the sponsor is extended to everyone.

The merchants of Abbotsford are making a special effort to offer attractive merchandise at attractive prices for Saturday so that Exchange Day for you may be both profitable and entertaining.
