Luick, Josephine "Jo" Carol (Stoppa) (25 FEB 1924 - 30 JUL 2013)

Josephine "Jo" Carol (Stoppa) Luick, King, formerly of Madison, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 30 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

She was born on February 25, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minn., daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Scbiliz) Stoppa.

On June 15, 1945, Josephine married Leon Luick at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. Her early married years were spent in Marathon City, Medford, Neillsville and Menominee before moving to Madison in 1956.

Jo grew up on a farm outside of Stephenson, Mich., and worked her entire life - outside the home dedicating herself to the care and support of her family and the community, and her later years caring for her husband and family. As a young woman, during World War II, Jo worked with Allis Chalmers Corp. performing quality control on artillery shell casings, and later, she worked for various grocery stores in the meat department and Ray-O-Vac Corp. with the production of experimental batteries. Jo and Leon were founding members of the Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin/Madison where they dedicated countless hours in support of efforts to preserve their social and cultural heritage.

Jo is survived by sons, Leon "Butch" (Dorie) Luick II of Madison and Ray (Jeanne) Luick of Lodi; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Leonora Stoppa of Appleton. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Catherine Stoppa; husband, Leon Luick; daughter, Jo-Ellen Kohn; brothers, John and Stanley Stoppa; sisters, Helen Stoppa and Agnes Duffrin; nephews, Frederick and William "Billy" Duffrin; and brothers-in-law, Myron Luick, Henry Duffin and Gerald Jende.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Wisconsin Veterans Home-Main Chapel.
