Wonn, Fremont (8 MAR 1884 - 2 NOV 1946)

Fremont Wonn passed away very suddenly at his home in Stanley Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2, 1946, at 1:30 from a heart attack. He had driven downtown in his car and ordered coal, a little after noon, and returned to his home on Emery St. When the driver of the coal truck delivered the coal, about a half hour later, he found Mr. Wonn dead. Eggs were cooking on the stove and he had apparently started to get his noon-day lunch when he was stricken. The deceased was born March 8, 1884 in Avoca and spent the greater part of his life in Crawford and Iowa Counties. He was married in 1913 to Miss Harriet Koepp at Prairie du Chien. In 1922 they came to Stanley country and operated a cheese factory three miles west of Stanley on Highway 29 for eight years. They then moved near Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), where they operated the Lone Oak Cheese Factory for 15 years. Owing to ill health he retired in June of this year and they purchased a home on Emery Street in Stanley.

Several weeks ago he purchased the stock in the I.G.A. Store in Colby and was over there part of the time. His wife was at the store in Colby, Wisconsin at the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Irene (Mrs. Walter Ciolkosz) of Withee, two grandchildren, Margaret and Martin Ciolkosz, one sister, Kate Wonn, and one brother, Fred Wonn, of Avoca.

The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 5th, at 2:00 at the Methodist Church at Stanley, Rev. R. O. Reimers officiating. The pallbearers were as follows: R. B. Moldenhauer, William Stair, Fred Goddard, Charles Myrin, Edward Miller and Walter Emerson.
