Gumz, William (March 10, 1940 - October 4, 2008)

William Gumz, 68, Dorchester, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital where he had been a patient for the past month.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester, Wis.

Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester, Wis. Rev. Robert Everhard will preside. Burial will be in Dorchester South Cemetery, Dorchester, Wis.

Pallbearers were Robert Gumz, Mark Metz, Ken Gumz, Ray Metz, Tommy Ploeckelman and Jim Kreklau.

William was born March 10, 1940, in the Township of Holton. He attended Bruckerville Grade School in the Township of Holton and Dorchester High School.

After school, he helped on the family’s dairy farm. He then purchased the farm in the mid 1960’s where he owned and operated it until his retirement in January 2008.

He married Dawn Nelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church on July 10, 1971.

William enjoyed snowmobiling and was also a member of the Midnight Riders in Dorchester, Wis.

He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester, were he served as past council member.

William is survived by his wife, Dawn, Dorchester; son Bruce (Jolene) Gumz; three daughters, Amy (Cory) Broeski, Beth (Kevin Kosik) and Julie Gumz, all of Dorchester; and four grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters, Esther Krellau, Stetsonville and Betty (Jerry) Gebert, Lake Holcombe; and brothers Eugene (Barbara) Gumz and Leonard Gumz, both of Colby, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Alfred Gumz, in February, 2004.

Hemer Funeral Service, Medford, assisted the family with arrangements.
