Hackel, Naomi H. (Marriage - 1 June 1957)

Miss Naomi H. Hackel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Hackel of Colby, and Donald E. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard P. Smith of Eau Claire, were united in marriage at nuptial rites, following high mass, in St. Mary’s Catholic church Saturday morning. White gladioli and blue carnations were placed at the altar for the ceremony which was performed by Rev. John B. Pinion.

The bride was attired in a chapel-length gown of Swiss embroidery on tulle, worn over net and satin. The rose pattern embroidery covered the fitted bodice fashioned with scalloped Sabrina neckline and short sleeves and deep handkerchief points formed the bouffant overskirt. Matching gauntlets, and a silk illusion veil secured to a Swiss braid crown studded with pearls completed her ensemble. The bridal bouquet was a crescent of calla lilies, pink roses and ivy.

Miss Nancy Hackel of Milwaukee attended her sister as maid of honor and another sister, Miss Jean Hackel, also of Milwaukee, was bridesmaid. Both were attired in ballerina-length dresses of teal blue crystalette with crowns of blue satin and seed pearls completed with nose veils. Their flowers were nosegays of pink roses and swansonia.

James Smith of Eau Claire attended his brother as best man and Bernard Hackel, the bride’s brother, was groomsman. Joseph Hackel of Milwaukee, another brother of the bride, and Gene Grengs of Eau Claire ushered.

Mrs. Hackel was attired in a brown print dress with beige accessories for her daughter’s wedding and Mrs. Smith wore a dress of apple green with pink accessories. Their corsages consisted of pink roses and ivy.

Breakfast was served at the home of the bride’s parents. The wedding dinner and reception at the Colby Hotel were attended by 100 guests.

Guests were from Colby, Abbotsford, Dorchester, Athens, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Fountain City, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Fall Creek, Boston, Mass., Layton, Okla., and Minneapolis, Minn.

When the newlyweds return from a wedding trip to Atlantic City, N.J., and Philadelphia, Pa., they will be at home at 2903 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire.

Both the bride and groom attended Wisconsin State College in Eau Claire where the groom is manager of the Hollywood Theatre. He is a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in that city, while the bride is a graduate of Colby High School. She also attended Central State College in Stevens Point. She was formerly employed in the Clarenceville Public Schools at Livonia, Mich.
