Mierkey, Carol Marie (5 June 1957)

Miss Carol Marie Mierkey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Mierkey of Colby, and George A. Schreiber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schreiber of Athens, were married in St. Thomas Catholic church in Milan Wednesday morning, June 5. Rev. Bernard Schreiber of Wisconsin Rapids performed the nuptial rites and also was celebrant at the wedding mass which followed.

A traditional bridal gown of sheer nylon tulle and handclipped Chantilly lace over lustrous white slipper satin was selected by the bride for her wedding. The molded bodice of the gown was fashioned of tulle with lace appliqué forming the yoke topped by a lace collar. The lace sleeves, tapering to points over the wrists, were secured with satin-covered buttons. The bouffant skirt of lace-edged tiers of tulle ended in a full circular chapel train. Her fingertip veil fell from a tiara type headpiece and her bouquet consisted of red roses and white mums.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schreiber of Athens, brother and sister-in-law of the groom, were best man and matron of honor. Mrs. Schreiber was seen in a pink floor-length gown of nylon tricot chiffon. The shirred torso bodice of tricot over taffeta had a crushed cowl neckline, brief sleeves and two wide floating streamers at the back of the chiffon, and was attached to a fully-shirred skirt.

Completing her ensemble was a nylon feather braid tiara in scroll pattern studded with rhinestones in the same shade as her gown. She carried blue and white carnations.

Carrying similar floral arrangements and dressed like the matron of honor were the three bridesmaids - Mrs. George Tougtes of Chocho, Ill., and Miss Marcella Mierkey of Colby, both sisters of the bride, and Mrs. Roman Schreiber, Dorchester, their sister-in-law, all wearing blue.

Groomsmen were George Tougtes, Roman Schreiber and Wilmer Schmelzer, the last named of Colby, Wis.

Following the church ceremony, breakfast was served in the church hall, which also was the scene of the reception and supper. Out-of-town wedding guests came from Dell Rapids, S. Dak., Chicago, Birnamwood and Wausau.

The bride, a 1956 graduate of Colby High School, has been employed as a nurse’s aid at St. Mary’s Hospital, Wausau. Her husband was graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1953. The Schreibers are making their home on a farm near Milan.
