Holtzhausen, Carl (1878 - 28 Feb. 1957)

Carl Holtzhausen died last Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock in the Havenet Nursing Home at Owen, where he had been a patient for six weeks, at the age of 78 years. Masonic funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lulloff Funeral Home, S. L. Loos, chaplain, Colby Lodge No. 204, F. & A.M., officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were George Carr, Frank Goeltz, Oscar Carlson, C. A. Nelsen, Dr. W. W. Payne and Henry Aderhold. Honorary pall bearers were Frank Marquardt, Ted Baumgart, William Ebert, Dr. F. A. Weix, Ralph Jannene and Louis Schulz, all members of the Colby city council. C. A. Nelsen sang "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied on the piano by Mrs. J. F. Cross.

Mr. Holtzhausen served Colby as city clerk for 33 years before he resigned the office because of ill health. He also was justice of the peace of Ward 3 for 22 years, a member of the Colby Library Board and Colby Fire Department for many years. He operated a blacksmith shop here and practiced his trade until illness forced him to retire. He had been in ill health about six months.

Mr. Holtzhausen was born in the town of Wilson, Sheboygan county, and came to Colby when he was about two years of age. He continued to live here the remainder of his life. He married Augusta Krepsky in Colby in 1899. She preceded him in death in 1955.

Surviving are a son, Alvin Holtzhausen of Abbotsford, two daughters, Miss Erma Holtzhausen of Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. S. E. (Ethel) Wallace of Madison; two grand children, Shirley and David Holtzhausen; one sister, Mrs. Winnie Muehlenberg of Sheboygan.

Mr. Holtzhausen was well and favorably known for his friendly disposition and his devotion to his duties which was testified to by the faith citizens had in him by keeping him in office for 33 years. He always endeavored to perform every duty to God, his country, his family, his neighbor and himself.
